| GALLERY GARDENS: ART GROWS AT CALTRANS ... In the evening projection works were cast against the broad cement walls. One of those deserves particular note: At first glance, Sibylle Allgaier's projections look like airline calendar landscapes. But on closer inspection they are revealed as earthworks and natural features of the landscape photographed from various altitudes that suggest Rorshach-style, other things. Coupled with pithy quotes, the snakes, figures of Native American mythology, smiles and other forms leap out in vivid color. Surprising, funny and profound, they are the geographic equivalent of found objects. -- Jonathan Jerald, June 2006 |
